This year’s edition of the Oporto International Summer School will take place between 19th and 29th of July.
The topic for the III Oporto International Summer School is Law and Business. In a fast-paced globalizing world, students and young lawyers are often challenged with tasks that require not only legal knowledge, but also pratical business insight. Our aim is to provide the participants a hands-on approach of the main areas where law and business collide.
Therefore, this years academic program will address the following areas:
- Mergers and Acquisitions
- Corporate Finance
- Banking Law
- European Economic Law
- Commercial Arbitration
- European Labour and Social Security Law
You will find an heterogeneous list of speakers from law firms, consulting firms, universities and specialised organisations
The lectures will be held at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Foz Campus), the eldest Law School in Oporto and highly-renowned in Portugal and internationally. The lectures include theoretical classes and more pratical parts.
By the end of this course you should have introductory notions about some of the trending and most required transversal areas of expertise for new corporate professionals.
The Oporto International Summer School will provide its participants with the chance to discover Oporto, the 2nd biggest city in Portugal and the biggest in the North.
Oporto was named Best European Destination in the years of 2012, 2014 and 2017 and its historical center was considered by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage. Its not hard to figure out why.
The city unfolds along the river bank and the sea shore, to reveal charming vistas, inviting esplanades and all the pleasures of the outdoors, framed by its green spaces.
There will be one day fully-reserved to sightseeing, during which the participants will have the opportunity to see the bridges, Sé do Porto, Torre dos Clérigos and
Ribeira, where they will be able to experience the genuinity of Oporto’s preserved traditions and culture.
There will be, of course, time to taste Oporto’s traditional dish – the Francesinha – and the Port Wine, two worldly renowned flavours that charm even the more sceptic tasters.
It will be a pleasure to the Organizing Committee to share the beauties and of this city with the participants. We’ll try not only to make it hard to leave, but to make it even harder not to come back.
The scheduled activities for the week will include:
- Pub Crawl
- Boat Trip
- Port Wine Cellars Visit
- Gala Ball
The participants will be accomodated at Garden House Hostel, which is located in downtown Oporto, 3 minutes (walking distance) away from Avenida dos Aliados, the historic center of Oporto.
The hostel is located in Santa Catarina street, the heart of the Oporto’s shopping district. During the night and not far away from the hostel, Oporto has numerous bars and clubs where you can have fun all night long.
You can expect a busy and crowded commerce area during the days and a wild nightlife spot during the nights.
The hostel, which is fully-reserved to the participants, has a total of 11 rooms (54 beds), 2 bathrooms and 9 showers, a fully equipped kitchen, wi-fi, a living room and a terrace large enough to hold parties and barbecues.
The staff is helpful and friendly and will help you to make the most of your stay!
